Schattenjager Talisman - handsculpted Amulet by Ganjamira Schattenjager Talisman - handsculpted Amulet by Ganjamira
:bulletred: SOLD - commission for :iconleanderdane:

The "Schattenjäger Talisman" or Schattenjager Talisman from the game series "Gabriel Knight".

I say that quiet often lately, but this was really a huge challenge for me!:la: At first I thought I never could do it...
The amulet is really huge - 4,2inches in diameter! Its completely handsculpted by me from golden polymerclay and three beautifull glass gems. After baking I painted it with Citadel-Colors. First in golden-bronce and then with a dark patina for a most realistic ancient look.

I used this great 3D-model as reference

I went looking for one of these and didn't really expect to find one. But yours is so well made and looks so great. It's hard to find nice stuff made for these games.

would you ever consider making another one? And if so how much would it cost?

OMG, this is amazing! I loved that series. I wish that they'd been able to keep going. GK4 was going to deal with Scottish Ghosts. :(

OMG! So many amazing things in your gallery lately! I'm jealous! I have to find more time (or any D:) for clay myself.
If you don't mind sharing some of your secrets, any advice on how to make the protruding parts less prone to damage? For example the part when the chain is attached.
/hugs!

Nawwwwww thank you so much!:happycry: But you´ve no need to be jealous - I feel exactly the same about your works!:la:
Especially how you manage it to work with so delicately thin rolls of clay for your ornments and patterns - I done such work on a few pieces and it drove me INSANE!:nuu:
Of course! Its quiet simple: Just bake the clay shorter than proclaimed on the package. I use to kiln my works for 15-20minutes at only 100-110°Celsius, instead of 130°Celsius. This way the clay stays a hint flexible and will bend instead of breaking apart. I discovered that silver/metallic pigmented clays are better for unbreakable pieces, while red and green (FIMO in this case) get briddle really really fast and should be baked 15min at longest if you want flexible parts. It needs a bit experimenting, but its really easy:meow:

Ahhh damn! With more complicated pieces I usually have to bake them twice, so I guess I have to stick with sticking (;P) the wires inside the clay ^^. But maybe I can use it on the details that I put there last? And make them more protruding without the fear they break. Ha! I have to experiment how it would look with my varnish, hope it's flexible enough and won't crumble. Hmmmm...
Thank you so much for the advice! :D

I thought so! I sat long days in front of your gallery and only come up that you bake some pieces twice for the one or other effect=D

As you said its great for the last fragile pieces you add to your pendants! Also I saw that FIMO gets hard enough to proceed working on the piece after 5min baketime . if you´re doing multiple layers this is quiet awesome! Only metal coloured clays seem to get dark very very fast...

No problem at all! I feel kind of honored a great artist like you asked for advice from me:heart:

Well it is truly a testament to your craft - intricate detail executed so well over the entire piece. You can tell that over 90% of it was something that couldn't be reproduced with a stamp/imprint - that it was hand done around every line. That's truly impressive - gorgeous piece!

Uhhh, considered I worked nearly 36 hours on this piece it would be about 75€.

what if it was only a quarter of the size, a more wearable one? I love GK series but the talisman was always pointed out to be heavy and bulky. [especially since in the game it was made out of gold]

Ouhhhhhhhhhh...the size would be perfect to wear it, indeed, but I´d be not ble to sculpt the middle motive in this small:nuu: I´m already happy I accomplished lion and snake on this pendant ;-; For this project we both would have to wait until my skills got a bit better^^ I mean I could try now, but I´m very sure I lack the ability at this point to be honest...

ah thats a good point, it is pretty intricate with the whole lion snake thing.. well you're busy with other projects already. I might try my hand at sculpting it myself.. not sure how well it will go but i've always been pretty ok at sculpting small size.

Indeed, otherwise I´d say yes in no time! But as I know myself I´ll raise my skills faster than I can watch, half year ago I was not able to to sculpt it in this big size=D
